Not many of us have been around sheep enough to know first hand that they are simple. I’ve heard they lose their way and get lost if separated from the flock, sometimes to their hurtful demise or death. Sheep will keep their heads down for hours eating the delicious green grass not aware that a wolf is about to pounce on them. The little lambs are adorable, but the ewes are stinky, and the rams are stinky and mean.
That’s hard to hear, since we are compared to sheep in the Bible! (read John 10)
But the main teaching of Jesus’ parable is that if we are His then we recognize His voice. Sheep only respond to the voice of their shepherd, and to no one else’s. We must learn to discern what is His voice and what is not!!! We hear so many voices, and that results in frustrating patterns of living.
My life experiences have taught me to really listen to His voice. When I get distracted by life and its joys and sorrows I tend to listen to those other voices. Then things get complicated.
For me, being a simple sheep, following my Shepherd, my protector, and listening to His voice is the best way to walk on this life’s pathway.
Are you with me, flock?
Let’s keep life as simple as possible in this complicated world by listening to His voice and following Him. He knows what’s best for us, and we can trust God to keep us from the deadly “wolves.”
