Living Color

We can’t see well in the dark. In dim light everything looks gray. We cannot see color without light. The brighter the light, the more vibrant the color!

“There are special light-sensitive cells in the retina termed cones which are responsible for color vision. However, they work only in bright light. In the dark it is almost impossible to tell the color of an object.” (healthguidance.org)

Genesis explains creation to us. God created the heavens and the earth, and by verse 3 of the entire Bible He separated the light from the darkness. He spoke light into existence. He IS light.

John 8:12 says: When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

God tells us to BE the light in this dark world, and that if we follow him we will have the light of life.

So, where am I going with this?

God created all of us IN HIS IMAGE. Humans come in a variety of colors (not to mention all the other differences!) If we truly follow Jesus, then we will embrace all the colors – the variety that He put in place. Racism still runs rampant. It pains me when I hear someone who claims to be a Christian use racist comments. People who feel superior to other races are in the dark. They cannot see the beauty of the color because they are not the light and are not IN the light. Only in the light can we truly appreciate and enjoy the variety of color!

In God there is no darkness at all. If you struggle with hatred or feelings of superiority – draw near to the Light Himself. He will push the darkness out and set you free to walk in the light in fellowship with all. Let us continue to share the light of Christ with all we meet! Only the light of Christ can conquer the darkness of racism. And without light, there is no life!

“This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.  If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.  If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us.  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:5-9
