The Big 3-0

I just celebrated my 30th birthday. Honestly, I was super excited about turning 30! I had this feeling my 30th year was going to be one of the best. Some people go through a minor crisis entering their 30th year. But for me I decided to have a different mindset. Instead of thinking about what I don’t have, and not being where I thought I would be at this age (married and with a kid possibly), I made the decision to think about what I do have and where God is taking me! It was a sense of relief. When I put my life in God’s hands I don’t have to worry. All he wants me to do is trust him.

A couple days after my birthday, I sat with God and dreamed with him. He told me big things are to come. God also reminded me Jesus was 30 when he began his ministry with the disciples. God told me to start reading about Jesus’ life as a 30 year old. I want to be like Jesus and now I am the same age Jesus in his prime of ministry!

I really feel this is a year for continued growth, for deeper connection with my Father in heaven, and to become more and more like Jesus. I do feel like God is preparing me for my future husband and vice versa! Even though when I was younger I thought I would be married by 26 and have a kid by the time I was 30, I now think no way do I want a kid at this moment! I am living a full and vibrant life just as God intended me to right now. My own family will come, but not yet! God is continuing to make me whole and reminds me who I am in him.

As I am in the first week of my 30s I can tell you it has already been one unforgettable week! I already see myself checking things off my bucket list and learning more about Jesus in his 30th year. I have big goals and plans for this 30th year and one is to finish the book I am writing!

God has big plans for you as well, but have you taken the time to sit with him and dream? Have you sat with him to reflect on your past year? I encourage you to do so. It will give you encouragement as to where you have come from, and give you direction as to where you are going! Your Father in Heaven has big plans for you!

One Year Older

I just recently celebrated my birthday. Some dread this day because it means they are another year older. Others get excited and look forward to being another year older. I look at it as another year of opportunities and adventures!

With each new year there are new expectations. For me it seems those are to be married, have children, be in a career working full time, but what if that’s not what the plan is for my life? What if God has other plans?

I am newly 28 years old and I have many friends who are married, have children and I have none of those. I have been in 2 weddings this year and will have attended and been invited to about 8 just in this year alone! I am at “that age” people tell me. And you know what??? I am very happy with where I am in life. I do desire to be married and have children one day and I know it will happen for me, but not yet.

I can tell you that with each year it gets better and better. This year I have discovered who I am and what God wants me to do and I am launching my own business! I don’t have my own family, but I do have parents who love and support me, family and friends who stand beside me, and a God who will never leave my side or let me down. I would have to say I am pretty blessed and happy where my life is now and where it is going.

I know from the outside looking in I am not where society says I should be and that is more than ok. I am NOT OF THIS WORLD and I am following the one who made me the way I am. I am trusting in his plans for my life and I know with each year, because I am trusting in Jesus, my life gets better and better.

How are you viewing each of your years? Are you going into your next year of life with goals? Are you excited for all you can accomplish? Are looking forward to your next adventure? Are you happy where you are? Whether you just had a birthday or it is months away, it is never too late to make this your best year yet!

I am 28 and feeling great! : )

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Birthday in Belize

For the past 3 years I have been outside of the US in different countries on my birthday. Whether the dates of the trip so happen to fall on my birthday, or God intended it to be that way, I don’t know, but I do know I really enjoy spending my birthday doing the Lord’s work.

The first of the 3 years I was in Nicaragua with Paz Naz (the church I grew up in) on a mission trip. The 2nd of the 3 I was on the World Race and celebrated my birthday with my squad of 42 in Cambodia and had the privilege of going to Angkor Wat. This 3rd year I am in Belize on another mission trip with Paz Naz and there is no place I would rather be.

My heart beats with excitement when I am traveling, especially when it’s for Jesus. My birthday is a reminder that I was put on this earth for a purpose. That I was born into the family I was born into for a reason. And God wants me to use my life for him everyday not just my birthday! And when I say YES to his call, I end up in other countries on my birthday!

There is something about giving from yourself for the benefit of others. There is something about seeing the smiles on people’s faces when you are able to bless them. There is something about being selfless that gives you pure joy. It is humbling and honoring at the same time. This isn’t something you have to travel out of the country to do. It is something you can do in your own backyard!

On my dear friend Mary’s birthday this year, she made dinner for her friends. She wanted to bless others on her own birthday! With her own money, she bought everything she would need to make dinner, and served her friends. Another dear friend, Kari, planned her own birthday party, in her own backyard around her family and friends. She told me “I just want to be around the people I love.” These two ladies demonstrated a selfless act on the day of the year they could make the excuse “ but it’s my birthday!” And they did it because they are full of the Father’s love. I am overjoyed to call them my friends and sisters in Christ!

Stop. Take a moment and look at the faces of the people around you. How are you loving them? How are you a blessing to them? How are you being Jesus? Are you being selfish and thinking of only yourself or are you being selfless and looking at the needs of others?

How are you going to celebrate your birthday this year?

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength. The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31
