The Dream Life

Have you ever stopped to think of that one thing you would want to do most in this world? Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you loved what you do and were passionate about it?

Many of us have never stopped to think about what gives us life and purpose and what brings us the most joy in this life. Whether it’s being a stay at home mom, barista, doctor, entrepreneur, we should love what we do!

There are many people who go through life viewing their occupation as more of an obligation. They go to work because they have to, not because they want to.

What happened to doing what you love?

Society has put so much pressure on people to go to school, get a job, but because there is so much pressure on getting any kind of job to make money, people are working and are stuck in jobs they are not happy with. They go to school, declare a major, and most don’t end up getting a job in the field they declared when they graduate and are back at square one.

I’m not saying college isn’t important, but for some it’s not a necessity. For some going out into the world, getting experiences, pursuing what they love is more beneficial than sitting in a classroom.

This happened to me after college. I am very thankful I went to college, but I was on the path to do more schooling when God shut a door and I ended up going on an 11 month Christian mission trip instead. At times during my travels I imagined myself sitting in a classroom, and became really excited when I realized my reality for that time was exploring the world. The world was my “classroom. ”

(Table Mtn South Africa)

I played with kids in Nicaragua, rode an elephant in Thailand, taught and played with street kids in Cambodia, lived and worked at a blind home in Malaysia, ran a medical clinic and lived at an orphanage in Swaziland, ran sports camps and Bible studies in South Africa, walked through challenges and celebrations with my peers, and so much more! I received experience in many areas and I discovered my passion to coach others, and I have been pursuing this passion ever since.

I believe there is a time to not do what you truly enjoy for a season in order to get to where you truly want to be. Dreams don’t happen over night (well the ones in your sleep do), but I’m talking a dream job, or dream lifestyle. They do happen but you must be willing to do the work for it. And it mostly likely will not be all butterflies and rainbows when you are doing what you love, but you will be more willing to work hard and want to put in the work because it is doing what you love!

Dreams do come true, but you must be willing to do the hard work to get there whatever that may be. You must be willing to say yes to something that may seem so crazy at the time. BUT you don’t have to stay in that obligation forever. Look at it as a temporary place preparing you until you are where you have always wanted to be.

One of the most challenging pieces to this puzzle is figuring out what you are passionate about, what gives you joy and adds to your life in a positive way. You may need to take a retreat, get away from your current situation and allow yourself to dream. Don’t put a lid on your dreaming. Let your mind wonder and allow yourself to come alive!

And now I ask you…. What are you passionate about?

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

Psalm 37:4

Reflection Connection

I have a little 800 gallon 12′ x 3′ pool that I set up in the summer-time. It’s not much, but it’s an oasis during the heavy heat of summer in the South.

I lie back and relax on my lounge raft, stare at the Carolina blue sky and dream about having a real pool someday. What will that be like? I’ll be so happy when that day comes. Until then I’ll just bide my time with this silly kiddie pool. I want bigger. I want better. Sigh.

Last weekend I decided to take a selfie lounging in the pool. When I looked at the photo later, I noticed the lovely reflection of the sky, clouds and trees in the water surrounding me. This started me thinking….

Calm water reflects whatever stands above it. Perfectly. No matter what size the body of water is. A puddle can show a flawless reflection when undisturbed, just as well as a pond or a lake.

Do you ever find yourself wishing for something “bigger?” Thinking that maybe you’ll be a better giver, or a better volunteer, a better friend, a better Christian – once you get more income, that better car, that life you’ve always dreamed of having? Do you bypass being an impact right where you are because you are waiting for something else? Or, do you feel like your position in life isn’t meaningful enough to make a difference?

All lies. None of it’s true.

We should all dream and strive to be better. But many times we miss where we are RIGHT NOW. After all, right now is all that is guaranteed.

As I reflected (ha), I realized how grateful I was for that little private 800 gallon oasis. I realized that is where I am right now in life, and that it is good. Maybe that “real” pool is in my future, and maybe it’s not. But right here, right now, I have this one. And it’s pretty awesome. I stopped longing for something else and made a decision to enjoy the present.

You can be the same reflection of Christ no matter what your current position in life. Whether you are self-employed, one of thousands at a corporation, a stay-at-home Mom who drives the carpool, or standing for hours in the unemployment line – you can still reflect and live the character of Christ.

We are all made in His Image. We all have the same capacity to reflect Him – and we all have the same power and potential to be Christ-like in our daily lives. Our character is worth more than our “position,” and others are watching our reflection.

So, be still and KNOW that He is God. Stop thrashing about, disturbing the waters, distorting the reflection. Be faithful in the little things, so that He can trust you with the bigger things He wants to give you.

Be present. Be still. Be bold. Be grateful for who you are and where you are.

Be the best YOU by reflecting the One who made you YOU.

“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.”
2 Corinthians 3:18 NAS

Dream BIG

Something I am learning is how to dream big. Dreams that are so big they are impossible without God!

big dreams

In January, God told me to dream big and I have been trying to figure out what my dreams are ever since. In figuring out my dreams, I am realizing what my passions are.

My passion is to be a life coach. I want to be someone people can come to, to encourage them and help them along their life journey to create goals and accomplish those goals and attain the dreams they have.

While I was on the World Race, I had the opportunity to walk alongside people on their journey, encouraging them, asking them needed questions, pointing them toward their end goal or reminding them to stay focused on the present and I LOVED it! It wasn’t until my World Race coach told me I should become a life coach that I knew what I was doing and what I loved actually had a name and a profession! Who knew?!

With discovering my passion I am learning how to dream. I want to have a career in life coaching and make it my own. I also want to have a beach house where people can come for a place of rest and enjoy God’s beautiful creation. Sitting on the back porch with a cup of coffee in their hand while looking out over the ocean and sitting in the peace and presence of God! Doesn’t that sound wonderful?

I know I can dream bigger. I know this is only a fraction of the dreams I can have with God on my side.

Are you a dreamer?

God wants us to dream. He wants us to do big things for his kingdom. We must believe that anything is possible with God by our side.

 set a Dream

In Genesis 12:1-3, God tells Abram that he will bless him and his name with be known among the nations

“Now the Lord said to Abram, ‘Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’ ”

God didn’t say it would be easy. Along the way to your dreams you will have people who will try to bring you down and stir you away from your dream. They will make fun of you, be negative, but don’t let that come between you and your dream!

 Confidence

Proverbs 16:3 “Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.”

Have dreams, and make sure they are according to God’s plan. How do you do that, you may ask? Well, ask him! We can talk to God like we talk to a person standing right beside us. We have access to him 24/7. Sit and be still and listen to the voice of the Lord. He will tell you what to do. And if you spend time with him and delight in him, your heart and his heart will be in tune and his desires will be your desires.

Psalm 37:4 “Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

DREAM GOD-SIZED DREAMS!

You can do it!
