One Year Older

I just recently celebrated my birthday. Some dread this day because it means they are another year older. Others get excited and look forward to being another year older. I look at it as another year of opportunities and adventures!

With each new year there are new expectations. For me it seems those are to be married, have children, be in a career working full time, but what if that’s not what the plan is for my life? What if God has other plans?

I am newly 28 years old and I have many friends who are married, have children and I have none of those. I have been in 2 weddings this year and will have attended and been invited to about 8 just in this year alone! I am at “that age” people tell me. And you know what??? I am very happy with where I am in life. I do desire to be married and have children one day and I know it will happen for me, but not yet.

I can tell you that with each year it gets better and better. This year I have discovered who I am and what God wants me to do and I am launching my own business! I don’t have my own family, but I do have parents who love and support me, family and friends who stand beside me, and a God who will never leave my side or let me down. I would have to say I am pretty blessed and happy where my life is now and where it is going.

I know from the outside looking in I am not where society says I should be and that is more than ok. I am NOT OF THIS WORLD and I am following the one who made me the way I am. I am trusting in his plans for my life and I know with each year, because I am trusting in Jesus, my life gets better and better.

How are you viewing each of your years? Are you going into your next year of life with goals? Are you excited for all you can accomplish? Are looking forward to your next adventure? Are you happy where you are? Whether you just had a birthday or it is months away, it is never too late to make this your best year yet!

I am 28 and feeling great! : )

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans.

Proverbs 16:3

Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.

Proverbs 19:21

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Best Friends Forever!!!

What comes to mind when you hear the word relationship?

Family. I think of this past weekend when I was able to meet up with my cousins to go surfing. I think of my mom and dad coming down to San Diego spending time and money to move me into my new place. I think of camping in Yosemite.

Friends. I think of all the friends I have met all over the world. I think of hiking to the top of a mountain in the Philippines in a monsoon with my friend by my side the whole time.  I think of traveling to Colorado to see a dear friend, camping, hiking, and sharing our hearts with one another. I think of training for a triathlon, swimming in the bay side by side.

But most importantly I think of Jesus. I think of sitting in a storage closet in Cambodia and Jesus being with me. I think of walking through the Red Light District and Jesus being with me. I think of God creating the ocean for me to enjoy. I think of Jesus not only being my best friend, but also the lover of my soul.

Jesus wants to have a relationship with us. He wants to be the one we go to when we are having a hard day. He wants to be the one we laugh with. He wants to be the one to hike a mountain with us.

Let’s get rid of this idea of religion and focus on the relationship. Religion is law; relationship is love. It’s all about love with Jesus. He doesn’t care if you recite a prayer correctly, or go to church every Sunday. He doesn’t tell us to do something and THEN we will receive his love. There is no ultimatum. Jesus already paid the price. We don’t have to earn his love. We need to open up our hands and receive it.

He wants a relationship with you. When you are in a relationship with someone you want to spend time with them, right? That’s what Jesus wants with you.

“Where can I go from your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. Psalm 139: 7-10

“For great is your love towards me; you have delivered me from the depths of the grave.” Psalm 86:13

“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” John 10:10

What does your relationship with Jesus look like?

HOMESICKNESS

What a special time I am having with my cousins here in Oregon!  In fact, I have been a little “homesick” for this “land” and my family here. I was reared in the Portland area from age 7-19, and my fondest childhood memories are of this “place”; its beautiful trees, streams, rivers, waterfalls, mountains and beaches.  (My aaahhhhh places!)

But, as I get older I am longing for my home with God, Christ and the Holy Spirit; my permanent “place” for eternity!!!  How can I be “homesick” for a place I’ve never been?  Because God tells me in His Word what that place is like, and I am excited at the thought of that forever time worshiping my Savior and being with my loved ones who have gone on before!

Jesus said, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so I would have told you.  I am going there to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you with me that you also may be where I am.” John 14:1-3

That’s a promise, and I believe God’s promises because He does not change.  In the meantime we recognize this world is not our home……..we’re just passing through!

Jesus’s disciple, Peter, says in the second chapter of his letter, 11th verse…”Dear friends, I urge you as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.”

And the Apostle Paul tells us in “The Faith Chapter” Hebrews 11:13-16…..”All these people (Abel, Enoch, Noah and Abraham) were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance, and they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth.  People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one.  Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.”

Oh….I am longing for that “place”……that Heavenly City!!!

EVEN SO LORD JESUS….COME!

Are you ready to meet Him face to face today?
