The Dream Life

Have you ever stopped to think of that one thing you would want to do most in this world? Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you loved what you do and were passionate about it?

Many of us have never stopped to think about what gives us life and purpose and what brings us the most joy in this life. Whether it’s being a stay at home mom, barista, doctor, entrepreneur, we should love what we do!

There are many people who go through life viewing their occupation as more of an obligation. They go to work because they have to, not because they want to.

What happened to doing what you love?

Society has put so much pressure on people to go to school, get a job, but because there is so much pressure on getting any kind of job to make money, people are working and are stuck in jobs they are not happy with. They go to school, declare a major, and most don’t end up getting a job in the field they declared when they graduate and are back at square one.

I’m not saying college isn’t important, but for some it’s not a necessity. For some going out into the world, getting experiences, pursuing what they love is more beneficial than sitting in a classroom.

This happened to me after college. I am very thankful I went to college, but I was on the path to do more schooling when God shut a door and I ended up going on an 11 month Christian mission trip instead. At times during my travels I imagined myself sitting in a classroom, and became really excited when I realized my reality for that time was exploring the world. The world was my “classroom. ”

(Table Mtn South Africa)

I played with kids in Nicaragua, rode an elephant in Thailand, taught and played with street kids in Cambodia, lived and worked at a blind home in Malaysia, ran a medical clinic and lived at an orphanage in Swaziland, ran sports camps and Bible studies in South Africa, walked through challenges and celebrations with my peers, and so much more! I received experience in many areas and I discovered my passion to coach others, and I have been pursuing this passion ever since.

I believe there is a time to not do what you truly enjoy for a season in order to get to where you truly want to be. Dreams don’t happen over night (well the ones in your sleep do), but I’m talking a dream job, or dream lifestyle. They do happen but you must be willing to do the work for it. And it mostly likely will not be all butterflies and rainbows when you are doing what you love, but you will be more willing to work hard and want to put in the work because it is doing what you love!

Dreams do come true, but you must be willing to do the hard work to get there whatever that may be. You must be willing to say yes to something that may seem so crazy at the time. BUT you don’t have to stay in that obligation forever. Look at it as a temporary place preparing you until you are where you have always wanted to be.

One of the most challenging pieces to this puzzle is figuring out what you are passionate about, what gives you joy and adds to your life in a positive way. You may need to take a retreat, get away from your current situation and allow yourself to dream. Don’t put a lid on your dreaming. Let your mind wonder and allow yourself to come alive!

And now I ask you…. What are you passionate about?

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

Psalm 37:4

Facetime with Jesus

When you are friends with someone, do you make an effort to see them and spend time with them? Do you make plans to go to the beach, get coffee, go shopping, fishing, bike riding, crafting, you name it? Do you sit and have conversations with them about the good, and the bad, the celebrations, and the challenges?

This is how it should be with Jesus. He is our friend. He wants to do the things we enjoy doing WITH US. He wants to sit down with us and talk about the celebrations and challenges in life. He is a great listener. He also has excellent advice.

Do you spend the time with Jesus like you would a friend?

I was having some Jesus time this morning, and I must be honest, I have not made it a priority these past couple weeks. I have become distracted by the things in this world and made Jesus second.

I really want to hear Jesus more clearly. I really want to be like Jesus. And you know what He said to me this morning??

When you spend time with me the sunshine that is inside of you increases and becomes stronger. When you spend time with me other people will be affected because the atmosphere around you changes. When you spend time with me you will become more like me. When you let go of the distractions around you and focus on me you will know the plans I have for you. You will see the bigger picture. You will walk in my ways and not your own.”

It’s simpler than I make it out to be. In order to be like Jesus, I must spend face to face time with Jesus.

Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I command I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.”

John 15:13-15

But you promised…

God has given me promises and sometimes I think, “Are they ever going to happen?”

I have been in 2 weddings this year and I just went to a third wedding this past weekend. These weddings have been of very dear friends of mine and I am over the moon excited for each of them to marry the love of their lives. Each couple has put God first and he is at the center of their relationship. It’s a beautiful, yet rare thing to see in this world. But this is how God intended marriage. Marriage is a gift given to us by God to be a representation of his love for the church. We are his bride and he is the bridegroom. Marriage on earth is a taste of what it’s like between us and God.

Marriage is a beautiful thing and something I strongly desire to be apart of. I am single at the moment but I think, dream, and pray for the man I am going to marry.

In 2013, God gave me a vision of my wedding day. I saw myself radiant and I was looking up into the eyes of my husband but I couldn’t see his face. All I could see was myself and light shining brightly all around us.

In 2014, God told me attributes about my husband and what our relationship would represent and told me to pray for him every day.

In 2015, I wrote out everything I want in a husband, prayed over the list and made room for God to add to it. I sealed the list in an envelope. I stopped praying for him every day and only when I thought of it.

In 2016, God gave me a new perspective about marriage and another promise to hold onto. He told me that this marriage will not only be for me and my husband but for so many others around us. This made me look at the bigger picture. It’s not just about me. It’s about so many others. With all of this in store for the marriage I will have one day, I am willing to wait as long as God intends. He has a master plan and sometimes we get stuck on the little things and never take the time to step back and look at the bigger picture. I will continue to pray for my husband.

God gives us promises to keep our focus on him. He tells us what we need to hear at the time to keep us on track. He has a plan behind it all. And I know one day He will cross the paths of my journey and my future husband’s journey and it will be unlike anything I could ever dream or imagine. I tell this to you as an encouragement, especially to all the single ladies and men out there. God knows. He has a plan. Someone of you will be married to someone here on earth. Others of you have a marriage with Christ (this is to all). He is waiting to take your hand and have a relationship with you.

Give God your heart and he will fulfill his promises to you.

The Lord will establish you as his holy people, as he promised you an oath, if you keep the commands of the Lord your God and walk in his ways.” Deuteronomy 28:9

You have kept your promise to your servant David my father; with your mouth you have promised and with your hand you have fulfilled it—as it is today.” 1 Kings 8:24

(There are over 3,000 promises in the Bible.)

Walking in Freedom part 2

About a month ago in March, I went on a mission trip to Mexico with my church. We went into Tijuana to work with our church plant and share the great news about Jesus and the new church.

I had no idea what to expect on this trip.

No one did.

God moved in ways I couldn’t even come up with!

I feel there are multiple steps to be able to walk in freedom. The first one I mentioned in my blog “Walking in Freedom,” which to summarize is to allow Jesus to enter the place of shame or guilt or anger or whatever it may be and picture him there with you. I did this for a certain area of my life and recently Satan tried to bring me back to that place again, but I pictured Jesus grabbing my hand and walking me out of the situation. It was freeing.

The other part to freedom, I feel, is surrendering all that you are to God and letting him come into every crack and filling it. I experienced this for the first time when I told God out loud “I SURRENDER EVERYTHING TO YOU!” And then I experienced so much joy that I began to laugh and rock back and forth uncontrollably. It was incredible and very freeing.

My friend Brea has been deaf in her left ear her entire life of 25 years. She has been praying for God to heal her because she believes he can. In Mexico, God said, “Now is your time.” Brea went up to the pastor during worship and told him her story. He began praying for her and I felt I needed to go up and pray for her too. Me, the pastor and other girl named Rachel were laying hands on her and praying for her. The power of God was so mighty and powerful that she was bent over as the pastor was laying hands on her ear. He told her she had something inside of her that was holding her back so he prayed healing and freedom over that area of her life. She fell on her knees and we continued to pray for her. Rachel was praying over Brea in her left ear, and Brea told her to pray again. Brea began to scream and exclaim, “I CAN HEAR! I CAN HEAR!” And we all jumped up, started cheering and crying and praising and giving glory to God!

God healed her!

She said before she heard Rachel pray in her ear, she heard God say to her, “You are my child.”

That is walking in freedom. Free from the bondage.

God wants to free you from bondage. He wants you to walk in the freedom he has given us.

“And where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” 2 Cor 3:17-18

Freedom in Death

I was thinking about my last post on freedom and God was reminding me that the only way we have freedom is through death; the death of his son Jesus. Today is Good Friday, the day we remember the crucifixion of Jesus.

You may be thinking; why would a father send his son to die for so many unworthy people? God loves his son, Jesus, but told him he was to die for ordinary people like you and me. Why would he do something like that?

FREEDOM.

be-feeling-free-freedom-Favim.com-858840

God knew a sacrifice needed to be made because the devil had a grip on us. We deserve to die and go to hell, but Jesus died in our place so that we would have the choice to experience freedom.

But why would God do this?

Because we are his children. We were created in the image of God. God sacrificed his son in order for the rest of his children to experience freedom.

“So God created mankind in his own image; in the image of God he created them, male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27

“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” 1 John 3:1

But freedom doesn’t only come through the death of Jesus, but through the RESURRECTION! Jesus is ALIVE!

“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die.” John 11:25

He conquered death for us and came out victoriously over the evil one. Through victory comes freedom. This freedom is in Jesus and because of Jesus. This freedom is not something that is forced upon us. It is a gift. We can make the decision to receive this freedom or not.

If a friend gives you a gift, do you reject it?

I don’t. I love gifts! Who doesn’t?

Why would we treat this gift of freedom any differently? And yet we do. We think we can live this life on our own, but the devil is still out there. He is still after God’s children. It is our choice to make the decision to stand in the freedom given to us through the death and resurrection of Jesus.

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the spirit of the Lord is there is freedom.” 2 Cor 3:17

Now let’s celebrate FREEDOM not only this weekend but for the rest of our lives here on this earth!

Happy Easter!

He has risen!

Walking in Freedom

I just got back from a weekend in Mexico with my church. We turned off our phones and the outside world in order to be fully engaged with the people around us and with Jesus. When you become fully present with Jesus, the supernatural happens.

We would start our day with one on one time with Jesus. Sitting in the quiet of his presence and creating a space for him to speak and for us to listen. In this space your relationship with him grows. He wants to spend one on one time with you just like you would a friend.

We then would head to the church where we would have corporate worship praising and singing songs to our Lord and Savior. One of the pastors would speak what God had placed on their heart and it always ended with a response to God.

One of the responses was thinking of a time that left us in a place of shame, guilt, discomfort, anger, whatever it may be and going back to that time in our life and picturing Jesus there with you. It’s powerful! Try it. You will begin to feel freedom. Chains will start to break off because you have allowed yourself to go back to that time of hurt and pain, but you also allowed Jesus to show you where he was during that time. He was with you.

He wants to heal you from that place of hurt. Whatever it may be he wants you to walk in freedom with him, but he is not going to force you. He is waiting.

Jesus has already set us free by dying in our place on the cross. Now is our time to fully walk in the freedom he has given to us. We don’t deserve it but he gave it to us anyway because that is how much we are loved by the Father in heaven.

“For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin- because anyone who has died has been freed from sin. Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him.” Romans 6:6-8

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” Galatians 5:1

When Heaven and Earth Collide

On Thursday I was worshipping during a corporate worship service and I felt as if heaven and earth were colliding. It was the feeling as if things of heaven were coming down to earth and all the saints were in one room together along with angels. The presence of God was so overwhelming in the room that I was flat on my face lying on my stomach on the floor.

While I was lying on the floor worshipping there was a presence of someone else worshipping with me. Yes, there were many other people physically in the room, but I felt as if someone was with me spiritually. It felt as though someone I dearly love who went home to Jesus about 6 years ago was with me. That presence was my dear Grandma! It was beautiful. I felt as though my grandma and I were worshipping our God together! I had tears of joy streaming down my face. She and I were laughing together and singing praises to our Savior. The moment was wonderful and I didn’t want it to end.

I know for a fact my grandma is in heaven and I believe God gives us gifts from heaven like visits from the ones we love who have gone before us.

This is not the first time my grandma has visited me. Almost exactly a year ago I had a dream that was so vivid I felt as though my grandma was in the room with me. She told me she was sent from God to bring me reassurance and hope.

Before my grandma’s visit last week, I was missing her and wishing she was with me. I want to talk with her so badly about all the things God is doing in my life. I want to sit down over a cup of coffee and have a conversation about Jesus. Even though I cannot physically see her or give her a hug, I was reminded on Thursday that she is with me. She is seeing all that God is doing in my life, and we shared a special moment together in the presence of God. What an incredible gift!

Hillsong has a song called “Heaven and Earth.” The chorus is

Heaven and earth collide
The Savior for everyone has come
Bringing the dead to life
All for the glory of Your name

This is so true! The savior for everyone has come. He came to this earth and is alive in heaven. He brings the dead to life, which is true in many ways, but in this case, my grandma “died” on earth, but is alive in heaven with Jesus! And I was able to experience her being alive to bring glory to the name of Jesus. He is the only reason why I was able to worship with my grandma and see her in a dream.

I hope this is an encouragement to you! That you will experience heaven and earth colliding. Worship God, give thanks to him, praise his holy name, ask for an encounter with him, and you will experience the greatness and glory of the Lord on earth as it is in heaven.

“I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe.” Ephesians 1: 18-19

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on EARTH AS IT IS IN HEAVEN.” Matthew 6:9-10

Warrior

I am a warrior. I am fighting. I am fighting in a battle. The enemy is fierce. He is a stealer, killer, and destroyer. He is darkness. He is evil. He is negative. He tells lies. He wants me to loose, to give up. He tries to tear down my family. He tries put curses and chains on them, on me. He wants to rip us a part. He wants us to be alone. He wants us to think we are the only ones in this dark world. He wants us to have diseases and illness. He is trying to destroy us.

BUT

I am a warrior. I am fighting. I am fighting in a battle and GOD is on my side. He is the bringer of life. He is all-powerful. He is mighty. He is light. He is joy. He is good. He is faithful. He tells us truth. He gives us hope. He builds us up. He restores us. He is the healer. He is our rock and foundation. He sets us free.

We have nothing to fear with GOD on our side.

“For nothing is impossible with God.” Luke 1:37

I know the evil one wants us to be afraid, but knowing that the all powerful GOD is on my side keeps me at ease.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. “ 2 Timothy 1:7
“For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.” Deut 20:4

The Message version of Deut 20:4 says this,
“When you go to war against your enemy and see horses and chariots and soldiers far outnumbering you, do not recoil in fear of them; God, your God, who brought you up out of Egypt is with you. When the battle is about to begin, let the priest come forward and speak to the troops. He’ll say, “Attention, Israel. In a few minutes you’re going to do battle with your enemies. Don’t waver in resolve. Don’t fear. Don’t hesitate. Don’t panic. God, your God, is right there with you, fighting with you against your enemies, fighting to win.”

God is fighting with us and for us! We are not alone in this battle. I am fighting but I am not fighting by myself. I have God with me, and I also have fellow believers fighting with me. We are more powerful than evil because God’s great power is inside of us.

The victory is ours because of GOD!

Don’t lose hope. Don’t fear. GOD IS WITH YOU!

You are a warrior.

(Guatemala 2014 on the World Race)

The lyrics of this song remind me of how the victory has been won. Jesus died on the cross and conquered death of the evil one and rose to life in victory!

“For the Cross”

Bethel Music
The life You gave
Your body was broken
Your love poured out
You bled and You died for me
There on that cross
You breathed Your last as you were crucified
You gave it all for me

Hallelujah, what a Savior
Hallelujah, what a friend
Hallelujah, King forever
We thank You for the cross

There in the ground
Sealed in the darkness
Lifeless laid
The frame of the Father’s son
In agony
He watched His only Son be sacrificed
He gave it all for me

But on that day
What seemed as the darkest hour
A violent hope
Broke through and shook the ground
And as You rose
The Light of all the world was magnified
And You rose in victory

Hallelujah, it is finished
Hallelujah, it is done
Hallelujah King forever
We thank you for the cross

And though our sins are scarlet
You have made us white as snow

The Simple Life

This is the beginning of a new year so all of us are thinking how we are going to be better than we were the year before. I know I am and I know my cousin, Kristin is as well. She talked about in a previous blog, Slight Edging It, about her change for this next year and I think it’s fantastic!

The trouble is you must stick to it. You must tell yourself everyday you are going to accomplish those things you want to. Things don’t happen over night, if they did then we wouldn’t have very exciting journeys just a lot of endings. The journey is what changes you, shapes you, molds you, and transforms you into the best version of yourself if you allow it to.

“Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is- his good, pleasing and perfect will.”

            Romans 12:2

I am currently doing the Daniel fast. And it hasn’t been easy. This fast consists of fruits, veggies, nuts, legumes, and water for 20 days. It’s very simple. But there have been many days I want a piece of chocolate or coffee and in those moments I pray God gives me strength and sets my mind back to why I am doing this fast in the first place. I think this is what we need to do when we want to “give up”, to “quit” on our goals we have set for ourselves in the beginning of the new year. We need to bring it back to Jesus because he will help us.

Before starting this fast I prayed about what kind of fast to do, and God gave me the word simplicity. At first I thought that was just my word for the fast, but now I am starting to realize this may be my word for the year. SIMPLICITY.

God wants us to live simple lives. We seem to overcomplicate things, but really we should live as children. Children are care-free, honest, live for fun and adventure, love everyone, they don’t over think they just do. God wants us to have child-like faith and this is what comes to mind when I think of simplicity. I want to live life as a child. I am going to pray to God when it gets tough and when I want to quit, when I start to overcomplicate things and ask God to help bring my mind back to the simplicity.

“I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 18:3-4

What are your goals for this new year?

How are you going to make sure you stick to them for the entire year of 2016?

Another Year Gone By

Another year has gone by. How did that happen?? Seriously! This past year has gone by so fast! It seems like I just got back from my 11 month trip but that was over a year ago now. So much has happened since then and God continues to amaze me.

When I came back from the World Race, I wanted to continue living a life of taking risks and living in boldness for Jesus. It hasn’t been easy, but as a look back in this past year I see God’s faithfulness and persistence. And when I look at the times I was obedient and took a risk, I was blessed beyond words and God was with me and gave me the strength I needed. He continues to blow my mind and blow my expectations out of the water!

Here are some of the things God has taught me this past year:

God hears us and answers our prayers, even if they seem small (I was shopping for a bridesmaid dress for hours and then I prayed and God told me to go to a specific store and I found the dress I needed in the exact color I needed it in! WOW!).

God wants us to pray specific prayers.

God does miracles and uses people like you and me as his hands (God used me to pray healing over a friend’s knees who were in pain and he healed her! WOW!).

God gives us strength when we are weak (I did a 3 day fast only drinking water and I had so much energy and joy it only could have come from God!).

God ALWAYS provides.

When we take a leap of faith, God will catch us and walk with us.

God loves to make us laugh (I laugh when I experience the Holy Spirit!).

God is always there to comfort us. When we cry, he cries.

God cares about what is important to us.

God stands in front of us with open arms waiting for us to run to him.

God is continuing to teach me how to see people through his eyes and when I do I see them as his children.

God gives us His light in order to be tangible lights to been seen by people in the physical realm.

God LOVES me and He LOVES you UNCONDITIONALLY.

As you move forward into this next year, take time to sit and think of the ways God has shown up in your life in the past year and thank him. Make a goal for yourself in this next year to step out in faith and live more of risk-taking life for Jesus. You will not be disappointed. : )

Happy New Year!
