Make Room for Abundance

When you’ve lived in the same house as long as I have, it’s so easy to be overrun with STUFF. Add to that my penchant for being super sentimental, and we have a recipe for getting bogged down with STUFF MAINTENANCE.

Do you do this? When I see something that truly no longer serves a purpose, I rationalize keeping it by saying

This thing meant something to me at one time.

I might be able to fit into this skirt/top/pants again someday.

I can wear these shoes (that are SO CUTE but kill my feet) to a wedding someday.

I’ll save and give this thing to _______________ because she loves the color ________________.

I’m quite sure I’m not the only one.

Lately, God has been sending me the message to simplify from the craziest places!

Purge.

LET IT GO.

In fact, as I’m typing this, my mailman left this magazine in my mailbox today:

Yep. God even enlisted the help of Oprah herself to get His point across. I always chuckle at His timing and creativity. Daily I get a message from somewhere or someone that confirms this area where I need to focus.

I’m telling you, if you ask God for confirmation on something you are struggling with or mulling over, HE WILL GIVE IT TO YOU.

He’ll even use Oprah to do it.

I’m not saying I’ve mastered the purging process, Lord knows it will be a lifelong endeavor… but I am recently invested in seeing things with new eyes. I’m still sentimental and there are many things that once belonged to my mom that will stay with me – but do I really need that set of vintage dishes I bought on eBay ten years ago?

No.

No. I don’t – and hanging on to it makes me unable to take on fun, new items I might get more joy from using.

But it’s not just physical stuff that needs purging – our minds are overrun by input that holds us back from our purpose of living in God’s abundance.

What are you filling your mind with?

What are you reading, watching, talking about?

Who are you spending time with?

The Bible is LOADED with verses that tell us to renew our minds.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.      Romans 12:2

Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.  1 Peter 1:13

A quick Google search came up with pages and pages on this topic – you can see one list by clicking here.

What am I doing to renew my mind to make room for God’s abundance and blessings? More importantly, what am I doing to prepare my mind for action and what He has planned for my future?

I’m learning to focus on the joy. I’m reading about the physics of the brain and how God created in us an amazing capacity for change. I’m learning to meditate on His word and His promises and I’m taking a good look at how to take action to change those thought patterns that only serve to agitate me. I’m going deep, and bumping into God all along the way.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

Philippians 4:8

Philippians 4:8 is my new motto, because I know that what we think about and focus on grows. Do you want resentment, negativity, hurt feelings and pain to grow, or do you  want truth, honor, justice, purity, loveliness, excellence and worth to be magnified?

I’m finding that simplifying life physically and spiritually comes slowly – but it’s something that holds great rewards if you consistently keep at it.

Here’s my pondering on Facebook from the other night – let me know in the comments if you can relate…

Feeling Insignificant?

I’m just one in a million. Who cares about my point of view? I just plug along day after day like the billions before me, and have nothing original to say.

Do you ever feel this way?

I do. I struggle with the fact that I am literally one of billions of humans in the history of mankind, yet God created me to be unique. This seems contradictory.

You are, literally, just one of billions of other humans that have walked, walk or will walk the earth. However, there is NO ONE else exactly like you. You are genetically made like none other, EVER. You also have a unique Spirit which has been fostered in a unique set of circumstances. This means your perspective is one of a kind.

You are created in the Image of God, in His Likeness. He is Creative, therefore we all have the capacity to create. Your life itself is art. Art is: the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination.

I am learning to shut out the critics and negative voices within and without. What I have to say is valuable, first to God my Creator, and then to me. I learn something every time I create. Every time I snap a photo. Every time I write. Every time I interact with a stranger. Beyond that, if someone else appreciates what I say or create, it is just icing on the cake.

I must stop seeking to please others, constantly wondering what “they” will think of my life/art/writing/creation. If God is pleased and I have grown, that is all the purpose it needs. Our society values others’ opinions too highly.

My challenge to myself and to you is to stop giving credence to the “critics” and to listen to what God says about us. His voice is the one that matters most. Sure, we should have checks and balances, and there are healthy ways of achieving this. However, if your life and your art lines up with Scripture, and your unique soul is connected with your Creator as you live your life, then you are on track my friend.

I also challenge us to stop being so critical of others. Allow others to uniquely create as God has inspired them. Encourage and uplift.

The aim of art is to represent not the outward appearance of things, but their inward significance.
Aristotle

Psalm 139: 13-16 says:
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.”

Take heart. Know you are special and that your insight into this life is unique and meant to be shared. Be empowered and strengthened by the fact that God your Creator designed you just as you are. The rest of us need to see and hear and feel what you create. Be bold and share it. You were created to do so.

What is your purpose?

These are not my own words. They were given to me to share with you…

“I created this world for you to enjoy and explore and not many people take advantage of it. They get stuck in their ways and get stuck in their job but that’s not what I created life for. You were created for much more. You were created to enjoy the life you are in, not to suffer from it. You are not living out your true calling and purpose if you feel like you are drowning. That’s when you need to turn to me and give me your burdens and your worries. They are not for you to carry. I will take them from you because I want you to enjoy life and not be miserable. Something must change if you are miserable, and hurting. I have the answer for you. I am the everlasting Father who loves you with an unconditional love. DO you know what that means? There is nothing you can do to win or lose my love. I love and will love you forever. You are my child. I created you and knit you together in your mother’s womb. You were made with a purpose. Now you need to live out that purpose and don’t waste it away. I made you for a reason. Do you know what that is?

GOD

And then I opened up my Jesus Calling…

“In order to hear My voice, you must release all your worries into My care. Entrust to Me everything that concerns you. This clears the way for you to seek My Face unhindered. Let Me free you from fear that is hiding deep inside you. Sit quietly in My presence, allowing My light to soak into you and drive out any darkness lodged within you.

“Accept each day just as it comes to you, remembering that I am sovereign over your life. Rejoice in this day that I have made, trusting that I am abundantly present in it. Instead of regretting or resenting the ways things are, thank Me in all circumstances. Trust Me and don’t be fearful; thank Me and rest in My sovereignty.”

God is good and He knows exactly what you need when you need it. He wants to give us the desires of our hearts and make us happy. He takes delight in us. He created you with purpose. Are you living out your purpose? Are you trying to find your purpose? Seek God and he will tell you and show you. You must be willing to take action.

CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?

Remember that TV ad a few years ago when the person would move different places trying to get reception on his cell phone?

I wonder if God thinks that about us sometimes!

How do YOU hear from God?

Maybe you feel God really doesn’t talk to you……”He doesn’t care about me….He has only the major stuff in the world to concern Himself with.”

Well……do YOU talk to Him?

Our Father God is all knowing, all seeing, and He is everywhere!   He will listen to you as you speak to Him through His Son Jesus.

“For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus…..”  I Timothy 2:5

So, to have a relationship with your Creator you must talk to Him….then LISTEN.

The listening part is the most difficult for all of us humans.  I say “Dear God, give me a written sign, in English please!!!”

If you need an answer from God my advise is to seek out the answer in the Bible, meditate on it, pray about it, ask for wisdom, and a peace will come into your inner-most being with the answer.  Sometimes the answer is not what we want to hear.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose.”  Romans 8:28

What I’ve noticed as I get older is that looking back on events in my life I can truly say….”Oh!  That’s why that worked out that way!  I see it all clearly now.”

Sometimes it’s a process (one of my least favorite words!) that doesn’t happen quickly.   And wrong choices I’ve made and repented for, God, in love, has turned it around for my good.!!!

Beloved, TRUST GOD.  He sees, He hears, He answers the best way for each one of us in His time.

LISTEN…….HE IS SPEAKING TO YOU.

CAN YOU HEAR HIM NOW???
