The little sparrow would have fit in the palm of my hand, she was so tiny. Her foe was probably ten or even twenty times her size – a huge black crow, flying easily too close to her nest. I watched as the little bird attacked the giant beast again and again. While not really threatened, I suppose the crow was probably annoyed and within a few minutes he flew away. Whatever he was after was not worth fighting for.
But whatever the crow was after WAS worth defending to the little bird. I imagine it was a mama bird protecting her nest against the intruder, her little ones sitting tight while she fiercely battled the threat with her whole being, willing to give her life if necessary for their safety.
I was stopped at a red light, just looking up, thankful for the beautiful sunny morning when I witnessed this extraordinary sight. As the light turned green and I moved through the intersection, I heard a still, small voice whisper to me,
“That’s how I feel about you.”
To think that God had allowed me to see that little display in order to make sure I got the message left me awestruck.
Whenever I am facing a battle and thinking the fight is all mine, He gently reminds me of that day and the promise to always fight for me. All too often I need the reminder to let go and let the all-knowing God do what He does best.
What battle are you fighting today? Remember, He’s got your back.
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Exodus 14:14
